Zilker Neighborhood Gardens

Commentary by a National Wildlife Steward who helps Zilker neighbors establish native plant gardens

About

The author of this blog is Joan Hughes. I am a National Wildlife Federation (NWF) Habitat Steward. I was trained with 30  hours of lecture and outdoor experiences in the Fall of 2010. As a steward, I volunteer more than 30 hours per year in ways that promote the establishment of native gardens that support wildlife, such as birds, bees, butterflies, etc. The focus of my volunteer work is the Zilker neighborhood in Austin, Texas. Why Zilker? Because I live in this neighborhood.

I do not have any formal background in landscaping, biology, or ecology. I pursue gardening out of pure interest. I welcome comments, suggestions, and corrections to anything I post. I also welcome co-authors for the blog – get in touch with me if you would like to contribute to the blog.

I also can offer free advising on your Zilker gardens. Please email me (zilkergardens at gmail dot com) to discuss your needs. Since I’m a volunteer, you might need to be patient for available time. I have been known to help others who are located in central Austin, as well.
